Pita Pete's is amusing now that all the Northwestern kids are gone. :-)
Oh. I forgot to mention when Adrianna was at Cannes, she met the head of a TV video editing company based out of Ireland and is now doing an internship in Ireland from June 11th to Sept 4th. :-P

Why are people such asshats. I take the train and the bus to work and today while I was on the bus, we were pulling up to the train station and people saw that the train was coming and one guy stands up and yells to the bus driver to stop the f#@king bus and starts banging on the side doors of the bus and yells "Open the doors". Moron then runs off the bus to the train. I sit on the bus a few moments and tell the bus driver that people are crazy and she agrees. I slowly walk towards the train and watch it pull away. The funny thing is that I could have gotten on the train even after taking my time and talking and walking slowly!! This was like a 50 year old guy in a suit as well. I couldn't even comprehend behavior like that.
Work is kind of strange as we just released the next version of our ERP program so I'm twiddling my thumbs for a bit until more projects are assigned. I'm starting to really dislike the AS400.
I other news we got a Wii!! Apparently the same day that C1 got his. I'll have to post my number later. The minigames are all really fun but I'm not sure how I'm going to feel playing a real game with a Wiimote. Have to track down some WaveBirds... |

Well, in 24 hours I will be in Las Vegas for the weekend! Woo-hoo! I've never been so it'll be interesting.
I'm getting somewhat annoyed at my job or rather at the lack of intelligent programmers. Maybe I'm just too methodical and anal for my own good. Everyone hates stupid people being in charge of you but what I'm finding that I dislike more is people who just don't care. The attitude of fixing something just enough so that it works is total bull. I couldn't even dream of doing something like that. I take pride in everything that I program knowing that I'm doing things the best way I know how and I am constantly learning. If I don't understand something I research it online or ask someone else at work to explain, I don't just copy and paste assuming that it's correct. Ughh! Maybe it's motivation that people are lacking. Maybe when I'm at the same job for more than 5 years, I'll start acting the same way as these people but somehow I don't think so. At least my immediate manager is pretty awesome otherwise I think I would really be considering a new job. I guess I should be greatful I even have a programming job.

Hmm. I guess it's been like a month since I posted. Oh Well. I would go into the whole apartment adventure thing but I only have 5 minutes so in short.... We have a new apartment finally. Signed the lease on 2 days ago to get the keys this coming Thursday to move in that weekend! Whee! It is in a decent part of Evanston which was the only practical city (other than Chicago) that would have worked for both of us. I will make a seperate post about the Apartment search.
Things are going really good at the job. I'm teaching someone who started the same day as me how to do things. :-P Eclipse is weird and Java is bleh but it's experience.
Cell phone is still off because of weirdness with T-mobile and I haven't had all my paperwork together to talk to them properly. (Sigh.) So if you need me you can email me and I'll give you either Anna's phone and/or my work phone.

Yay for hitting the quarter century mark today. I was going to have a party but I think we are waiting until we find a new place / decide to stay where we are and then have a party. I guess I'm going to go see Pirates on Saturday and then maybe again on Monday depending what people in the Lisle area are doing this weekend / Monday / Tuesday. So I think I'm going to go to the 2600 meeting tonight just because I think it's funny that it is on my birthday and so I can talk to other SideKick developers and chill :-) Oh, I got an Ipod Nano for my birthday! Squee! |

Hmm.. Well my work post seems a lot less interesting after reading C1's post but oh well. :-P So I've been working at Friedman for 3 weeks and I got my first mini-programming assignment today and finished it today. Sigh. I guess I shouldn't complain that I'm getting paid to read but I wish I could just do it from home and save myself a heap on gas. I'm pretty amazed at how fast I can read through a technical manual when it is the only thing you can do for 8 hours straight. I was also unfortunately switched from the VB 6.0 project to the new swanky JAVA / SWT / JFACE / Eclipse project. I have gone through a few manuals on those subjects already but they have yet to get me a copy of SourceSafe so that I can actually see the project as it is currently.
The Play! concert was amazing as expected and I didn't feel too bad that I didn't fork over the extra 300+ dollars it would have cost to meet all the composers. Although as Neko would say, I wanted to stab a couple people in the eye because they were yelling when Arnie was introducing the musical pieces. Also, we sitting in the balcony section and I was amused / disgusted by the number of PSP's I saw going DURING the concert.
I should probably pick up a JAVA book Blah.
Busy weekend. Farmers market in Oak Park starts on Saturday, Printer's Row Book Fair is this Saturday and Sunday right by Columbia College in the city. Then I gotten start my search for apartments (online if nothing else) as well as my search for a new bed and phone.
Movie time! Oh I started reading the Uncanny X-men comics starting from Issue #1 !!!. This is gonna take a while. Only 400 something more to go. Also found a torrent for ALL of the Crossgen comics from every series that was released. Yay! |

The probability of a car by my birthday is probably slim to none so my new goal is to have everything paid off in collections by then. Not quite sure about that either since we are probably moving once my lease ends at the end of July. I really like Oak Park but this drive is too much, especially with gas and just being a plain waste of my time.
Jason left for the Air Force and not many people approved but we all (or at least we all should) support his decision. Hopefully things will turn out all good. He will be missed until he returns in 6 months.
Dark and Light (www.darkandlight.com)officially opens May 30th but I am not as excited as I was 2 1/2 years ago when the game was first announced. We will see. |

I got a phone call today and Matt from Friedman Corporation just offered me the Junior VB position! So along with it being a job that is actually in my field, I'm getting about an 8K pay increase. VB would not be my first choice but it is technically the only language that I have job experience using and I'm definately not in any position to be picky. Also I should be getting some much needed job experience with SQL. I'm trying very hard to stop jumping up and down in my chair. |
